Lurgan Park
Lurgan Park is said to be one of Northern Ireland’s largest parks. An estimated 2000 people enjoy this beautifully landscaped parkland.
It provides excellent walking, jogging, and running facilities thanks to several well-maintained pathways.
A common question is how long is the walk around Lurgan Park. We would hazard a guess and say about 30 minutes. You will find some great information about the park here: https://walkni.com/walks/lurgan-park/
As a local Lurgan florist, we certainly appreciate the park during the spring and summer months as the fauna starts to show and the bird song can be heard.
Facts about Lurgan
Lurgan is a town full of charm, humour, and proud heritage. Once a major linen town, it later thrived in manufacturing and is home to the beautiful Lurgan Park.
Lurgan’s history is reflected in its landmarks, such as the Coalbrookdale Fountain, which was installed in 1888. It was originally placed in the town center but was later moved to Lurgan Park. The fountain is notable for still having its original lamp posts.
The town’s quirky side shines through local traditions like the nickname “Lurgan Champagne” or “Bucky” for Buckfast Tonic Wine, a popular drink in the area.
Lurgan also remembers its lost treasures, such as the Lyric Cinema, once a bustling venue where many romances began. Sadly, it was destroyed in the 1970s.
One of Lurgan’s unique buildings is the Irish National Foresters Hall, a historic site that has hosted countless community events.
Even everyday spots, like the old footbridge connecting Kilmaine Street to Victoria Street, hold sentimental value, adding to the rich tapestry of Lurgan’s past and present.
